Position Overview

The Universität Potsdam is seeking a distinguished individual for the role of Professor of Bioanalytics and Data Science. This position also entails a significant contribution as a member of the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology, specifically within the Bioanalytics and Bioprocesses division.

Research Focus

We are looking for candidates with a proven international record of exceptional research in the domain of bioanalytics integrated with data science. The ideal applicant will have a research emphasis on:

  • Complex data analysis utilizing mathematical techniques.
  • Development of processes in analytical or bio-chemistry.
  • Creation of intelligent sensors and bio/chemosensors.
  • Optimization of bioprocesses.
Qualifications

Essential qualifications include:

  • Expertise in natural sciences, process or automation engineering.
  • Strong understanding of mathematics and computer science.
  • Background in analytical chemistry with a focus on chemometrics and artificial intelligence.
Research Applications

The successful candidate is expected to conduct innovative research in medical applications, particularly focusing on:

  • Digital point-of-care diagnostics.
  • Identification and validation of biomarkers for geriatric medicine.
Collaboration and Teaching

Research topics should align with the current scientific priorities of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Universität Potsdam and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, facilitating extensive collaboration with research partners and businesses in the Berlin-Brandenburg area.

In this role, you will establish strategic partnerships between the Faculty of Health Sciences, the university, and the Fraunhofer Institute, linking core research themes with applied research, development, and transfer at Fraunhofer.

Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for teaching in new programs at the faculty, particularly in the English-language master’s program in Public Health, Exercise, and Nutrition, representing the comprehensive scope of bioanalytics and data science within the life sciences.

Professional Experience

A robust national and international network, along with demonstrated teaching capabilities, is expected. The candidate should possess a strong history of securing publicly funded grants and managing industry projects, showcasing expertise in strategic planning, acquisition, and successful execution.

Experience in leading interdisciplinary research teams is crucial for this position. The candidate should be adept at establishing efficient processes for the targeted execution of large-scale research and development initiatives, with a focus on transferring and utilizing research outcomes to create innovative products.
