Climate Protection Internship

Internship Position:
The Paris Agreement of 2015 marks a significant achievement in global climate governance. The 'Climate Sector Project (CSP)' plays a crucial role in its formulation and execution on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), offering both conceptual and practical insights. The primary aim is to enhance the integration of transformative strategies for low-emission and climate-resilient development within German and international development efforts.
This internship focuses on the area of 'Mitigation.' Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting in-depth research on climate policy issues and preparing comprehensive briefings, evaluations, talking points, and strategic documents.
- Assisting in the assessment of project proposals related to greenhouse gas emissions reduction and the activities of multilateral development banks in climate action.
- Contributing to the development of publications and informational materials regarding Germany's role in international climate policy and development cooperation.
- Providing support for ongoing project tasks for the BMZ as needed.
- Offering organizational assistance, including preparation for workshops, meetings, webinars, and event documentation.
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for this internship, candidates must be enrolled in at least the third semester of a relevant academic program, preferably at the Master's level, focusing on climate change, climate policy, or development cooperation. A solid foundational understanding of climate change and international climate policy is essential, with familiarity in areas such as greenhouse gas emissions reduction, NDC development, and international carbon markets being advantageous. Experience in developing countries and knowledge of German development cooperation are also beneficial.
Candidates should possess strong analytical abilities, a structured approach to work, and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. The ability to convey complex information clearly is crucial. Initiative, the capacity to work independently under pressure, and proficiency in both German and English are required. Familiarity with MS Office applications, particularly Excel, is necessary, while knowledge of additional languages such as French or Spanish is a plus.
