Climate Mitigation Intern

Internship Position:
The 2015 Paris Agreement marks a significant achievement in global climate governance. The 'Climate Sector Project (CSP)' plays a crucial role in its formulation and execution on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), providing both conceptual and practical support. The primary aim is to enhance the integration of transformative strategies for low-emission and climate-resilient development within German and international development cooperation.
This internship focuses on the area of 'Mitigation.' Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting thorough research on climate policy issues and preparing briefings, evaluations, talking points, and strategic documents.
- Assisting in the assessment of project proposals related to greenhouse gas emissions reduction and the initiatives of multilateral development banks in climate protection.
- Contributing to the development of publications and informational materials regarding Germany's role in international climate policy and development cooperation.
- Providing support for current project tasks for the BMZ as needed.
- Offering organizational assistance, including preparation for workshops, meetings, webinars, and event logistics, as well as supporting knowledge management efforts.
To qualify for this internship, candidates must be enrolled in at least the third semester of a relevant degree program, preferably at the Master's level, focusing on climate change, climate policy, or development cooperation. A solid foundational understanding of climate change and international climate policy is essential, with familiarity in areas such as greenhouse gas emissions reduction, national climate contributions (NDCs), and international climate negotiations being advantageous. Experience in developing countries and knowledge of German development cooperation will also be beneficial.
Essential skills include strong analytical abilities, a structured approach to work, and excellent oral and written communication skills. Candidates should be capable of presenting information clearly and concisely, demonstrate initiative, and work independently, even under pressure. Proficiency in both German and English is required, along with familiarity with MS Office applications, particularly Excel. Knowledge of additional languages such as French or Spanish is a plus.
