DACH Risk Management Officer and ERM Liaison

Overview:

The DACH Risk Management Officer and ERM Liaison is tasked with spearheading the risk management initiatives within the DACH region (Germany, Switzerland, and Austria). This role encompasses the coordination and execution of an independent risk oversight strategy across the targeted nations, ensuring the establishment of a comprehensive risk management framework that aligns with European regulations and meets local supervisory expectations. As a liaison, the officer fosters relationships with EMEA regional business stakeholders while maintaining independence, providing context and connectivity for effective risk management and facilitating problem resolution.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Cluster Officer (f/m/x):

  • Guarantee that business operations adhere to a risk management framework and governance structure that aligns with AIG's risk policies, fulfilling the requirements of both internal and external stakeholders, including relevant regulators.
  • Act as a collaborative partner to business units, offering insights and assurances by continuously refining the risk management framework to enhance its effectiveness and efficiency, proportionate to the identified risks.
  • Assist management in comprehending the overall risk landscape impacting the business, developing processes to ensure operations are managed within the defined risk appetite, which includes supporting project execution, crisis management, and collaboration with other defense functions to identify, assess, monitor, and manage pertinent risks.
  • Modify and prioritize the ERM risk management strategy by incorporating necessary inputs from various countries and aligning with EMEA ERM.
  • Regularly evaluate relevant risk management information, including risk issues and event reporting, to keep ERM and pertinent committees informed of any changes in the risk profile, particularly those nearing or exceeding appetite thresholds.
  • Ensure consistent reporting on the risk profile to relevant stakeholders and governing bodies.
  • Support ORSA activities and drive the review of strategy and business plan risk assessments, ensuring that risk evaluations and control self-assessments are conducted, delivering high-quality outcomes for the business/functions as applicable.
  • Facilitate the creation and implementation of risk registers, Key Risk Indicators, and risk-sensitive management information, maintaining oversight and monitoring of items as necessary, including those recorded in risk registers.
  • Oversee an effective, integrated risk event management process, providing training to business stakeholders, promoting a risk-aware culture to proactively mitigate risks, escalate issues promptly, and facilitate the identification of risk acceptances in line with the company's risk appetite.
  • Maintain a network of risk champions aligned with the countries and functions.
  • Assist the Swiss branch in addressing FINMA requirements related to ERM.

As the ERM Liaison (f/m/x):

  • Concentrate on business strategies and opportunities within the segment through engagement with regional stakeholders.
  • Establish risk management plans in alignment with segment stakeholders and coordinate the dissemination of relevant activities, analyses, and assessments (including targeted deep dives) to cluster Risk Officers.
  • Support ERM's centralized resource planning and deployment to ensure service continuity across all segments.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the segment, coordinating with local risk officers within each cluster.
  • Provide in-depth knowledge and act as a partner for the respective segment to ensure optimal ERM support.
  • Deliver a consolidated risk profile of the segment at an EMEA level as required.
  • Identify areas for improvement and provide insights on risks, highlighting alignment and optimization opportunities across various EMEA clusters.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives, including the development of new products, segments, and client analyses that involve risk identification and measurement.
  • Act as an advisor, providing complementary skills to challenge and review risk across the region.
  • Engage with regulators, external auditors, group experts, and relevant committees on risk matters as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills, disciplined, proactive, self-motivated, energetic, focused, and dedicated.
  • University degree with relevant experience in risk management, actuarial science, or quantitative risk management for general insurance; actuarial qualification or equivalent is preferred.
  • Familiarity with European Solvency II and other related regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven experience in a similar risk management role within the Financial Services Sector.
  • Ability to analyze cross-border perspectives (GAAP/Statutory, Issuing Office/Production Office).
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) and German is essential; proficiency in other European languages is advantageous.
  • Capability to build relationships, interface, and negotiate with a diverse range of external contacts. Key abilities include sound judgment, creativity, flexibility, and initiative to analyze and guide corporate projects from a legal perspective.
  • Comfortable and adaptable in a dynamic business environment and change management scenarios.
  • Willingness to travel to company branches and subsidiaries as necessary.
