Climate Risk Analyst – Enterprise Risk Management

Divisional Overview:

The Risk division is responsible for identifying, monitoring, assessing, and managing both financial and non-financial risks to align with the firm's strategic objectives and risk appetite. This division plays a vital role in determining how risks are approached and managed, ensuring the firm is prepared for both anticipated and unforeseen events that could negatively affect operations. Risk professionals are essential to the firm’s success, engaging in critical daily risk management tasks within a dynamic and fast-paced environment, employing advanced risk tools and frameworks. The teams within Risk are characterized by their analytical curiosity, readiness to face challenges, and a steadfast commitment to excellence. Effective collaboration with executive management, business units, control departments, and technology is crucial for achieving success.

The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) department oversees a variety of cross-functional risk capabilities, ensuring that both Risk and divisional leadership possess a comprehensive and aggregated view of the firm's risk profile. This encompasses both financial and non-financial risks, facilitating informed strategic planning and risk-related decision-making. ERM is tasked with evaluating and planning for new business initiatives, managing evolving or emerging risks, and governing the division's frameworks, processes, and capabilities, alongside regional and legal entity governance.

Job Summary:

The Climate Risk team spearheads the firm's strategy and framework for the assessment, monitoring, and management of climate-related and environmental risks. This involves evaluating the firm's exposure to both physical and transitional risks through its balance sheet positions and assessing the potential impacts on overall operations. Climate Risk professionals are engaged in essential daily risk management activities, leading projects, and contributing to the continuous enhancement of a robust climate and environmental risk management program.

The team collaborates closely with all areas of Risk, as well as various groups across the firm, including the Executive Office, Controllers, Global Banking & Markets, Asset and Wealth Management, and Risk Engineering.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with daily responsibilities and strategic initiatives of the Climate Risk program.
  • Prepare regulatory submissions as part of ongoing supervision, regulatory examinations, and other compliance deliverables.
  • Stay informed on the evolving regulatory landscape, providing guidance to shape the development of the Climate program.
  • Support the integration of climate and environmental considerations into first and second lines of defense processes.
  • Contribute to the design of the Risk Appetite Statement framework, including calibrating limits and monitoring utilization reports.
  • Collaborate with the quantitative team to understand the application of climate risk models and scenario analysis to inform portfolio risk assessments.
  • Manage internal risk frameworks and processes, including risk identification.
  • Contribute to materials for the Risk Committee and Board Risk Committee, regulatory submissions, and external disclosures.
  • Maintain relationships with key stakeholders across the Sustainable Finance Group, Controllers, Office of Government and Regulatory Affairs, and Legal.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 1-3 years of experience in the Financial Services or Banking industry, or experience in the ESG and sustainability sector.
  • Interest or background in sustainability and climate-related risks, along with knowledge of the growing European and Global climate and environmental regulatory landscape.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical abilities with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the capacity to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • High proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint is required.
