The Role

As our Head of Compensation and Benefits you will be reporting to the Human Resources Director for Germany and Cluster DACH. This exciting opportunity will come with the responsibility of managing and driving compensation and benefits agenda in Germany in line with global Imperial Brands compensation and benefits guidelines.

Principle Accountabilities

Analytics & Reporting:

  • Ensure timely and accurate annual financial reports in accordance with German-GAAP and IFRS.
  • Coordinate and instruct local actuaries, ensuring the accuracy of provisions.
  • Collaborate closely with Finance, local and global actuaries, and auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with tax and labor laws, and relevant reporting standards.

Employee Pension Management:

  • Provide employees with status information about their individual pension entitlements.
  • Manage pension rights adjustments.
  • Offer consultations on all aspects of retirement benefits, including the state pension scheme.
  • Handle deferred compensation schemes, Hamburger Pensionskasse (HPK), and direct insurance.
  • Oversee tariff policy related to pensions.

Support for P&C Director Germany:

  • Assist in developing and implementing tariff strategy/policy.
  • Engage in codetermination with the works council and trade union.
  • Develop social plans and manage termination agreements.

Cost and Provision Management:

  • Ensure accuracy of all costs and provisions in accordance with IFRS, German GAAP, and tax law.
  • Prepare discussion papers for redundancies and early retirements.
  • Ensure compliance and accuracy of termination agreements.

Share Schemes Management:

  • Administer Sharesave, Share Matching Scheme, and LTIP (invitation, maturity, taxation).
  • Consult with employees on share schemes.
  • Coordinate with providers such as Computershare and Equiniti.
  • Issue annual share status statements to ensure tax compliance.

Payroll & P&C Operations:

  • Lead the Payroll Manager overseeing payroll teams in Hamburg and Langenhagen

Compensation:

  • Design local compensation plans, including IMPIS and reward schemes for tariff employees.
  • Oversee the annual review process for tariff employees.

Benefits Management:

  • Manage local benefits, including regular reviews, RoI measures, and alignment with strategy.
  • Ensure benefits are state-of-the-art.

Skills and Experience Required

  • A relevant University/Master Degree
  • Significant actuarial experience and skills
  • People management skills
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) as well as strong negotiation, influencing and presentation skills
  • Effective at organizing and delivering projects
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to learn quickly, acquire new skills and solve problems with a solution-orientated approach
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong IT skills (e.g. MS Office) plus the ability to learn new IT systems /outstanding Excel skills
  • Fluency in German and English (both written and verbal)
