Position Overview:
The Department of Social Ethics at the Faculty of Protestant Theology is seeking a (Senior-) Research Fellow (m/f/d) (100 %). This role is initially limited to three years, with the possibility of extension for an additional two years within the framework of the ERC project.

The Department of Social Ethics is committed to advancing education and research concerning ethical, societal, and governance challenges posed by emerging technologies.

Project Details:
We are currently looking for a dedicated individual to contribute to the ERC project SIMTWIN based in Bonn. The primary aim of SIMTWIN is to systematically identify and analyze the ethical and societal ramifications associated with the application of Digital Twins in the healthcare sector.

Research Significance:
While many aspects of health simulations, including Digital Twins, are still developing, it is clear that these innovative technologies have the potential to reshape existing notions of health, illness, and the dynamics of control and vulnerability. For instance, envisioning a scenario where every individual possesses a 'digital body' that forecasts health events in real-time could fundamentally alter personal health perceptions and the practice of medicine.

Central Objectives:
SIMTWIN aims to deliver a thorough and insightful examination of the normative challenges involved, striving to create a cohesive theory surrounding health simulations. By proposing a framework grounded in empirical evidence and normative rigor, SIMTWIN will facilitate the design of practical strategies for managing the use of Digital Twins in healthcare.

Your Responsibilities:
- Conduct research within the ERC project SIMTWIN.
- Lead research initiatives alongside the Principal Investigator.
- Develop and execute empirical fieldwork.
- Publish findings in international academic journals.

Your Qualifications:
- A university degree (Master) with a PhD in ethics, theology, philosophy, social sciences, or law.
- Published research in AI Ethics, social ethics, technology ethics, or fundamental ethical inquiries.
- Familiarity with contemporary methods and theories in hermeneutics, science and society studies, empirical ethics, and governance.
- A passion for interdisciplinary research questions and methodological debates in AI ethics.
- Leadership capabilities in guiding research teams.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
