The Faculty of Protestant Theology is seeking a dedicated
(Senior) Research Fellow
(m/f/d) (100%) to contribute to our innovative research initiatives.

This role is initially set for a three-year term, with the possibility of a two-year extension within the framework of the ERC project.

About the Department:
The Department of Social Ethics focuses on the intersection of ethical, societal, and governance challenges posed by emerging technologies.

Project Focus:
As part of the ERC project SIMTWIN, we are looking for an individual eager to engage in research activities in Bonn. The SIMTWIN project aims to systematically identify and analyze the ethical and societal ramifications of utilizing Digital Twins in the healthcare sector.

While many facets of health simulations, including Digital Twins, are still developing, it is clear that these technologies have the potential to reshape our understanding of health, illness, and medical practice.

For instance, envisioning a scenario where every individual possesses a digital representation that predicts health events in real-time could significantly alter personal health perceptions and interactions between physical and digital identities.

This transformation will also influence medical practices and health policy considerations, leading to substantial changes in existing national and European healthcare governance frameworks.

Research Responsibilities:
- Conduct research within the ERC project SIMTWIN
- Lead research initiatives alongside the Principal Investigator
- Develop and execute empirical field studies
- Publish findings in reputable international journals

Candidate Profile:
- A Master's degree with a PhD in ethics, theology, philosophy, social sciences, or law
- Demonstrated research publications in AI Ethics, social ethics, or technology ethics
- Familiarity with contemporary methods and theories in hermeneutics, science and society studies, empirical ethics, and governance
- A strong interest in transdisciplinary research questions and methodological debates in AI ethics
- Proven leadership skills in managing research teams
- Excellent proficiency in English, both written and spoken
