Position Overview:
The Department of Social Ethics at the Faculty of Protestant Theology is seeking two PhD candidates/Junior Research Fellows (m/f/d) for a part-time role (75%). This position is initially limited to three years, with the possibility of a one-year extension within the framework of the ERC project.

The Department of Social Ethics focuses on teaching and research concerning ethical, societal, and governance challenges posed by emerging technologies.

Project Description:
We are currently engaged in the ERC project SIMTWIN, which aims to systematically identify and analyze the ethical and societal implications of utilizing Digital Twins in healthcare.

Significance of the Project:
As health simulations, including Digital Twins, are still developing, their potential to transform existing notions of health, illness, and medical practice is becoming increasingly apparent. For instance, the concept of a 'digital body' that predicts health events in real-time could revolutionize personal health management and reshape healthcare policies.

Objectives:
SIMTWIN's primary goal is to conduct a thorough and detailed examination of the normative challenges associated with health simulations, ultimately leading to the development of a cohesive theoretical framework.

Your Responsibilities:
- Conduct research within the ERC project SIMTWIN focusing on the normative dimensions (justice, solidarity, vulnerability) of Digital Twins.
- Produce independent publications in international academic journals.

Your Qualifications:
- A Master's degree in ethics, theology, philosophy, social sciences, or law.
- Published research in AI Ethics, social ethics, or technology ethics.
- Familiarity with contemporary methods and theories in hermeneutics, science and society studies, empirical ethics, and governance.
- A strong interest in transdisciplinary research questions and methodological debates in AI ethics.
- Excellent proficiency in both oral and written English.
