Position Overview:
The Department of Social Ethics at the Faculty of Protestant Theology is seeking two PhD Research Fellows (m/f/d) at 75% capacity. The initial contract is for three years, with the possibility of a one-year extension based on project needs.

This department is committed to exploring ethical, societal, and governance challenges associated with emerging technologies.

Project Details:
We are initiating a new ERC project titled SIMTWIN, which aims to systematically identify and analyze the ethical and societal ramifications of utilizing Digital Twins in the healthcare sector.

Research Significance:
While many aspects of health simulations, including Digital Twins, are still developing, it is clear that these technologies could significantly alter existing perceptions of health, illness, and medical practice. For instance, envisioning a scenario where every individual possesses a 'digital body' capable of predicting health events in real-time could transform personal health concepts and medical practices.

Project Objectives:
SIMTWIN's primary goal is to conduct a thorough and nuanced analysis of the normative challenges posed by these technologies, ultimately leading to the development of a cohesive theory regarding health simulations.

Research Responsibilities:
- Engage in research activities within the ERC project SIMTWIN.
- Develop and conduct studies focusing on the normative dimensions (justice, solidarity, vulnerability) of Digital Twins.
- Contribute to independent publications in reputable international journals.

Candidate Profile:
- A Master's degree in ethics, theology, philosophy, social sciences, or law.
- Prior published research in AI Ethics, social ethics, or technology ethics.
- Familiarity with contemporary methods and theories in hermeneutics, science and society studies, empirical ethics, and governance.
- A strong interest in transdisciplinary research questions and methodological discussions in AI ethics.
- Excellent proficiency in both oral and written English.
