This role is initially offered for a three-year term, with the possibility of extension for an additional two years as part of the ERC project.
The Department focuses on education and research addressing ethical, societal, and governance challenges associated with emerging technologies.
We are currently recruiting for the ERC project SIMTWIN, which aims to systematically explore the ethical and societal implications of utilizing Digital Twins in the healthcare sector.
As health simulations, including Digital Twins, are still developing, it is becoming increasingly clear that these innovative technologies may significantly alter our understanding of health, illness, controllability, vulnerability, representation, and embodiment.
For instance, if individuals possessed a 'digital body' capable of predicting health events in real-time, this would fundamentally transform personal health perceptions and introduce new dynamics between a person's physical and digital selves.
Such advancements would also influence medical practices and health policy considerations, leading to substantial changes in existing national and European healthcare governance frameworks.
The primary goal of SIMTWIN is to conduct a thorough analysis of the normative challenges presented by these technologies, aiming to develop a cohesive theory surrounding health simulations.
By proposing a framework grounded in empirical evidence and normative robustness for ethical and societal evaluations of this technology, SIMTWIN will facilitate the creation of practical strategies for managing the use of Digital Twins in healthcare.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research within the ERC project SIMTWIN
- Lead research initiatives alongside the Principal Investigator
- Design and implement empirical field studies
- Publish findings in reputable international journals
Candidate Profile:
- A university degree (Master) with a PhD in ethics, theology, philosophy, social sciences, or law
- Documented research contributions in AI Ethics, social ethics, technology ethics, or foundational ethical inquiries
- Familiarity with contemporary methods and theories in hermeneutics, science and society studies, empirical ethics, and governance
- A strong interest in transdisciplinary research questions and methodological debates in AI ethics
- Proven leadership abilities in guiding research teams
- Excellent proficiency in oral and written English
