ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability is a worldwide coalition of over 2,500 local and regional authorities dedicated to fostering sustainable urban development. Our members collaborate with a team of experts through peer learning, partnerships, and capacity enhancement to drive systemic transformations for urban sustainability.

About the Internship:

The ICLEI Global Events Team plays a crucial role in supporting the World Secretariat and the broader global organization by orchestrating significant international events. We operate in a diverse, multicultural environment, engaging with colleagues and partners from around the world. We are looking for enthusiastic, proactive, and skilled candidates for an:

Internship within the ICLEI Global Events Team

This internship offers a valuable learning experience for students who are required to complete a mandatory internship as part of their academic curriculum.

The selected candidate will assist in the planning and execution of major events such as Daring Cities 2023, the upcoming ICLEI World Congress, and the logistics for the LGMA Multilevel Action Pavilion at COP28.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of both in-person and virtual events.
  • Facilitate the participation of funded attendees, including support with travel arrangements, accommodation, and reimbursements.
  • Collaborate with the program development and speaker management teams.
  • Help maintain event websites.
  • Manage event-related email accounts.
  • Assist in video editing tasks.
  • Support the management of the event app and virtual platform, ensuring a smooth user experience.
  • Track logistical details for participants, speakers, partners, and staff.
  • Contribute to the creation of content for newsletters and promotional materials.
  • Develop social media content related to ICLEI Global Events.
  • Assist with additional tasks and responsibilities as required by the ICLEI Global Events team.
Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a vocational training program or university in a relevant field such as Event Management, Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, or similar.
  • Familiarity with web editing (preferably WordPress) and desktop publishing software (preferably InDesign).
  • Experience managing virtual platforms (e.g., Zoom, Whova).
  • Creative, proactive, and dependable in collaborative settings.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with MailChimp.
  • Background in social media management and event promotion.
  • Experience in non-profit and/or membership organizations.
  • Familiarity with local and/or regional government operations.
  • Proficiency in additional languages, particularly German, Portuguese, or Spanish, is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing software (preferably InDesign).
Compensation and Conditions

Terms:

  • This position is available at the ICLEI World Secretariat.
  • The intern will be supervised by the Global Events Senior Officer.
  • Compensation: 1000 Euros per month (full-time) before taxes and social insurance deductions.
  • Working hours: 40 hours per week (full-time), with 2 days of leave per full month.
  • Working language: English.
  • International travel may be necessary.
  • The internship will be governed by applicable laws.
