ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability is a worldwide coalition of over 2,500 local and regional authorities dedicated to promoting sustainable urban development. Engaged in more than 125 countries, we shape sustainability policies and foster local initiatives aimed at achieving low-emission, nature-based, equitable, resilient, and circular development. Our members collaborate with a team of specialists through peer learning, partnerships, and capacity building to drive systemic transformations for urban sustainability.

Internship in the ICLEI Global Events Team

This internship offers a valuable learning experience for students enrolled in a relevant academic program, who are required to complete a mandatory internship as part of their studies.

The selected candidate will assist in the planning and execution of significant events, including Daring Cities 2023, the upcoming ICLEI World Congress, and the logistics of the LGMA Multilevel Action Pavilion at COP28.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

  • Assist in the organization and delivery of both in-person and virtual events.
  • Facilitate the participation of funded attendees, including support with travel arrangements, accommodation, and reimbursements.
  • Contribute to program development and speaker coordination.
  • Help maintain event websites.
  • Manage event-related email communications.
  • Assist in video editing tasks.
  • Support the management of the event application and virtual platform, ensuring an optimal user experience.
  • Track logistical details for event participants, speakers, partners, and staff.
  • Develop content for newsletters and promotional materials.
  • Create content for social media channels related to ICLEI Global Events.
  • Assist with additional tasks and responsibilities within the ICLEI Global Events team as required.
Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a vocational training program or university in a relevant field such as Event Management, Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with web editing tools (preferably WordPress) and desktop publishing software (preferably InDesign).
  • Familiarity with managing virtual platforms (e.g., Zoom, Whova).
  • Creative, proactive, and dependable in collaborative settings.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with MailChimp.
  • Background in social media management and event promotion.
  • Experience in non-profit and/or membership organizations.
  • Familiarity with local and/or regional government operations.
  • Proficiency in additional languages, particularly German, Portuguese, or Spanish, is a plus.
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing software (preferably InDesign).
Compensation and Conditions

Terms of Employment:

  • This position is available for full-time engagement.
  • The intern will work under the supervision of the Global Events Senior Officer.
  • Compensation: 1000 Euros per month (before taxes and social insurance deductions).
  • Working hours: 40 hours per week.
  • Two days of leave per full month.
  • Working language: English.
  • International travel may be necessary.
