Overview of the Position:

As a Biomedical Equipment Technician at Fresenius Medical Care, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the functionality and reliability of medical and water treatment apparatus within our kidney care facilities. You will also play a crucial role in training and guiding team members on the operational upkeep of dialysis machines, thereby safeguarding the well-being of our patients undergoing dialysis treatment. Additionally, you will oversee the management of essential medical supplies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on dialysis equipment, ancillary devices, and water treatment systems.
  • Maintain the facility's physical infrastructure as directed.
  • Ensure that external vendor services are executed according to contractual agreements.
  • Manage the procurement and inventory of service components.
  • Perform, assess, and document water/dialysate sample collection and necessary follow-up actions.
  • Carry out regular trend analysis on the water system to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Keep detailed records of all maintenance and repair activities.
  • Assist in the planning and installation of biomedical equipment to guarantee safe and effective operations.
  • Transport equipment as necessary with supervisor approval.
  • Participate in monthly technical and regulatory meetings.
  • Collaborate with facility personnel to ensure compliance with all regulatory and OSHA standards.
  • Manage inventory, including receiving deliveries, conducting inventory counts, and assisting clinical management with inventory costs.
  • Conduct initial and annual verification and ongoing monitoring of patient care staff's techniques for testing the water system, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Complete all technical training programs mandated by state/federal regulations and company policies.
  • Provide after-hours technical support for clinics as required.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • An Associate Degree in electronics/biomedical technology or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A valid Driver's License issued in the employee's state of residence is required.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of Fresenius Biomedical Technician training within the first 24 months of employment.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Desired qualities include collaboration, independence, analytical thinking, mechanical aptitude, self-motivation, and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Less than one year of relevant experience is acceptable.
  • Prior experience in mechanical, automotive, construction, dialysis, or medical technical environments is preferred but not essential.
  • Manual dexterity is necessary for using common hand tools and small power equipment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and safely maneuver large or bulky equipment.

  • Employees must pass the Ishihara Color Blindness test as a condition of employment; however, failing this test does not automatically disqualify candidates.
  • The position involves active work, including lifting, bending, walking, and standing for extended periods.
  • The use of dollies or other equipment is mandatory for moving heavy items, with frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs. required.
  • There may be exposure to chemicals and infectious materials, and the scope of work includes high-voltage equipment. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided by the company.
  • The work environment is typically air-conditioned with moderate noise levels, but may require work in various outdoor conditions.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays may be necessary.
