Medical Equipment Maintenance Specialist

OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE:

Under supervision, the individual is accountable for ensuring the operational integrity, upkeep, and servicing of all water systems, medical apparatus, and mechanical/electrical systems to guarantee the safety of both patients and staff utilizing the equipment. Responsible for inventory management and maintaining cleanliness as necessary. Aids in cost management within the facility.

Supports the mission, vision, core values, and customer service principles of Fresenius Medical Care. Complies with the FMCNA Compliance Program, adhering to all regulatory and FMS policy standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES / ACTIVITIES:

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

Promotes the FMS culture through values and customer service expectations. Ensures exceptional service to all external and internal stakeholders. Develops and sustains effective relationships through timely and clear communication. Takes proactive measures to address, resolve, and follow up on customer service inquiries promptly.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

MAINTENANCE/TECHNICAL:

Maintains, tests, and repairs all water treatment systems, dialysis machinery, medical devices, testing instruments, and mechanical/electrical systems as per manufacturer recommendations and procedures established by FMCNA Clinical/Technical services, as outlined in the Technical Policies and Standards manual. Records all maintenance and repair activities. Conducts safety inspections and routine tasks, ensuring documentation is completed in a timely manner according to established protocols. Performs housekeeping inspections and addresses any related issues. Responsible for the cleaning and disinfection of water treatment equipment. Ensures all testing instruments are properly maintained and calibrated. Maintains cleanliness and safety in all areas, ensuring environmental integrity and aesthetics are upheld. Conducts facility maintenance as required. Coordinates the disposal of medical waste. Collects and organizes supplies, restocking areas as necessary. Assists in the ordering and receipt of disposable supplies. Aids in the creation of SAP purchase orders for supplies. Participates in monthly and quarterly inventory assessments of supplies, reporting costs through facility-specific records. Evaluates and communicates the current equipment inventory to relevant parties.

PATIENT CARE:

Ensures visibility to patients through daily walkthroughs during treatment times, when feasible. Reinforces the UltraCareTM concept and customer service, ensuring availability for patient inquiries and concerns. As requested, provides informative tours of the water treatment equipment for patients, explaining the fundamental operations of the machines.

ADMINISTRATIVE & CLERICAL:

Processes water and dialysate samples according to specified protocols, preparing samples for shipment. Engages in the completion and documentation of ongoing technical QAPI activities as appropriate.

ADDITIONAL:

Provides support at other facilities and/or acute programs, transporting equipment and supplies as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. Bending down to floor level is necessary for certain repair and maintenance tasks. The position requires a significant amount of physical effort. There is a two-person assist program and equipment available for moving heavier loads/equipment. The employee must regularly move boxes, drums, and equipment weighing up to 600 lbs. The use of dollies or other equipment is mandatory for moving items that weigh approximately 600 lbs. The employee must frequently mix and lift chemical and water solutions weighing up to 50 lbs. up to a height of 5 feet. In emergencies, ensuring patient safety and well-being is the highest priority, necessitating adherence to documented FMCNA emergency procedures. The work environment is typical of a healthcare facility, featuring controlled air temperature and moderate noise levels. There may be some potential exposure to chemicals and infectious materials; however, proper training will be provided to handle these substances safely.

EDUCATION:

High school/Vocational diploma or Technician training or AA Degree in electronics preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

A minimum of six months of experience in a technical (industry/hospital) environment. Must exhibit organizational and leadership capabilities, including problem-solving skills in a medical, healthcare setting. Attend all technical training programs mandated by state/federal regulations and FMCNA policy. Newly hired or promoted individuals are responsible for adhering to the respiratory fit policy requirements. Valid Driver's License and/or ability to cover at other facilities and transport equipment and supplies as necessary. Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of the FMCNA Training Program for Technical Staff.
