Overview of the Position:

As a Biomedical Equipment Technician at Fresenius Medical Care, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the functionality and reliability of medical and water treatment apparatus within our kidney care facilities. You will also play a crucial role in training and guiding colleagues on the operational upkeep of our dialysis systems, thereby safeguarding the well-being of our patients undergoing dialysis. Additionally, you will oversee the management of essential medical supplies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on dialysis machines, ancillary devices, and water treatment systems.
  • Maintain the facility's physical infrastructure as directed.
  • Ensure that external vendor services are executed according to contractual agreements.
  • Manage the procurement and inventory of service components.
  • Conduct, assess, and document water/dialysate sample collection and necessary follow-up actions.
  • Carry out regular trend analysis on the water system to confirm optimal functionality.
  • Keep detailed records of all maintenance and repair activities.
  • Assist in the planning and installation of biomedical equipment to guarantee safe and effective operation.
  • Transport equipment as necessary with supervisor approval.
  • Participate in monthly technical and regulatory meetings.
  • Collaborate with facility personnel to ensure compliance with all regulatory and OSHA standards.
  • Oversee inventory management, including receiving deliveries, conducting inventory counts, and assisting clinical management with inventory costs.
  • Conduct initial and annual verification and ongoing monitoring of patient care staff's water system testing techniques, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Complete all technical training programs mandated by state and federal regulations as well as company policies.
  • Provide after-hours technical support for clinics as required.

Educational Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate Degree in electronics/biomedical technology or related field (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Valid Driver's License from the employee's state of residence is required.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of Fresenius Biomedical Technician training within the first 24 months of employment.

Experience and Skills Required:

  • Desired qualities: collaborative, independent, analytical, mechanically inclined, self-motivated, and proactive in enhancing knowledge and skills.
  • Less than one year of relevant experience.
  • Previous experience in mechanical, automotive, construction, dialysis, or medical technical environments is preferred but not required.
  • Manual dexterity is essential for using common hand tools and small power equipment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and safely maneuver large or bulky equipment.

  • The work environment is typically air-conditioned with moderate noise levels, though outdoor work may be necessary.
  • Availability for evening, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required.
