Medical Equipment Maintenance Specialist

Overview of the Position:
As a Medical Equipment Maintenance Specialist at Fresenius Medical Care, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the functionality and reliability of medical and water treatment apparatus within our kidney care facilities. You will also be tasked with educating and training fellow staff members on the operational upkeep of our dialysis machines, thereby safeguarding the health of our dialysis patients, in addition to managing essential medical supplies.

Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair dialysis machines, ancillary devices, and water treatment systems.
- Oversee the maintenance of the facility's physical infrastructure as directed.
- Ensure that external vendor services are performed in accordance with contractual agreements.
- Manage inventory and procurement of service components.
- Conduct, assess, and document water/dialysate sample collection and necessary follow-up actions.
- Perform regular trend analysis on the water system to ensure optimal functionality.
- Keep detailed records of all maintenance and repair activities.
- Assist in the planning and installation of biomedical equipment to guarantee safe and effective operation.
- Transport equipment as necessary with supervisory approval.
- Participate in monthly technical and regulatory meetings.
- Collaborate with facility personnel to ensure compliance with all regulatory and OSHA standards.
- Manage inventory processes, including receiving deliveries, conducting inventory counts, and assisting clinical management with inventory costs.
- Conduct initial and annual evaluations of patient care staff's techniques for testing the water system, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications.
- Complete all required technical training programs as mandated by state and federal regulations and company policies.
- Provide after-hours technical support for clinics as needed.
Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- An Associate Degree in electronics or biomedical technology is preferred but not mandatory.
- A valid Driver's License issued in the employee's state of residence is required.
- Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of Fresenius Biomedical Technician training within the first 24 months of employment.
Experience and Skills Required:
- Essential qualities include being collaborative, independent, analytical, mechanically inclined, self-motivated, and proactive in enhancing knowledge and skills.
- Less than one year of relevant experience is acceptable.
- Previous experience in mechanical, automotive, construction, dialysis, or medical technical environments is preferred but not required.
- Manual dexterity is necessary for using common hand tools and small power equipment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and safely maneuver large or bulky equipment.

- The position requires active engagement, including lifting, bending, walking, and standing for extended periods.
- The use of dollies or other equipment is mandatory for moving heavy items, with frequent lifting of items weighing up to 50 lbs. as high as 5 feet.
- Potential exposure to chemicals and infectious materials exists, and the scope of work includes high voltage equipment. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided by the company.
- The work environment is typically air-conditioned with moderate noise levels, but may require work in various outdoor conditions.
- Availability for evening, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required.
