Position: Research Associate for the Project "L5 Future Climate Applications of Mixing Parameterisations in Earth-System Models"

Institution: Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences, Department of Earth System Sciences, Institute of Oceanography

Employment Type: Fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act.

Work Schedule: Part-time, comprising 75% of standard work hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage in academic services for the aforementioned project.
  • Conduct independent research and pursue further academic qualifications.
  • Potentially undertake doctoral studies outside of regular duties.

The project aims to enhance understanding of energy transfers across various dynamical regimes in mathematical and numerical models. The subproject L5 focuses on the application and evaluation of the energetic mixing closure IDEMIX in climate scenarios significantly different from current conditions.

The successful candidate will investigate the impacts of ice sheet melt and sea level rise on internal tide dynamics, utilizing the internal wave model IDEMIX to parameterize wave-induced mixing. This role involves collaboration with esteemed researchers and institutions, fostering a comprehensive approach to theoretical oceanography.

Candidate Profile:

  • A university degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Completed M.Sc. or equivalent in physical oceanography, meteorology, physics, applied mathematics, or related fields.
  • A strong interest in independent research within oceanography and numerical modeling, alongside data analysis and scientific communication.
  • Proficiency in English and a collaborative spirit within an international and interdisciplinary team.
