Your responsibilities
The role involves providing academic support for the aforementioned project. Research associates are encouraged to engage in independent research and pursue further academic qualifications, including doctoral studies, alongside their work responsibilities.
Responsibilities also encompass academic contributions to the TRR 181, a collaborative research center funded by the DFG, which aims to enhance the understanding and representation of energy transfers across various dynamical regimes in mathematical and numerical models.
The subproject L5 focuses on applying and evaluating the energetic mixing closure IDEMIX in climate scenarios that differ significantly from current conditions. This research aims to explore extreme future climate states devoid of the Earth's major ice sheets. By utilizing the internal wave model IDEMIX to systematically parameterize wave-induced mixing, the goal is to assess how the changes in barotropic tidal currents, resulting from ice sheet melting and rising sea levels, influence internal tide generation, propagation, and dissipation. The successful candidate will collaborate with the theoretical oceanography group at Universität Hamburg, under the guidance of Dr. Friederike Pollmann, Dr. Alexa Griesel, and Prof. Dr. Carsten Eden. Planned collaboration with Dr. Sophie-Berenice Wilmes from Bangor University will focus on barotropic tidal modeling in these extreme climate scenarios. Additionally, the successful candidate will be part of the project's research training group ENERGY, which connects participating universities and research institutes, offering dedicated training courses, extensive networking opportunities, and a mentoring program to facilitate career development.
Your profile
Candidates should possess a university degree in a relevant discipline.
A completed M.Sc. or equivalent in physical oceanography, meteorology, physics, applied mathematics, or related fields is required.
A genuine interest in independent research within oceanography and numerical modeling, data analysis, and the dissemination of scientific findings is essential.
Applicants must demonstrate excellent English proficiency and a willingness to work within an international and interdisciplinary team.
