At the Chair of Quantum Optics, we are pioneering advanced techniques to manipulate stored ions using high-frequency radiation, employing them as fundamental switching units (Qubits) in quantum computing systems. Our research endeavors aim to develop this technology, paving the way for scalable quantum computing solutions.

Within the Faculty IV - Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, Department of Physics, Experimental Quantum Optics, we are seeking a dedicated scientific staff member under the following terms:

  • % = 29.87 hours
  • Paygrade 13 TV-L
  • Fixed-term contract for 3 years
Your Responsibilities:

Your research will concentrate on innovative methodologies and strategies for quantum computing utilizing stored ions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, simulating, and constructing cutting-edge experimental setups
  • Executing and interpreting experiments involving stored ions and disseminating scientific findings
  • Collaborating with national and international research entities and funding organizations
Your Qualifications:
  • Degree in Physics (Diploma, Master of Science) with a minimum grade of 'good'
  • Comprehensive understanding of quantum mechanics
  • Strong enthusiasm for the project, with notable commitment and initiative
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team encompassing Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Electrical Engineering
  • Proficient English language skills
  • Experience in Experimental Quantum Optics, Quantum Information Processing, Laser Spectroscopy and Cooling, Microwave Technology, Laser Technology, Optics, Vacuum Technology, Control and Regulation Electronics, and Real-time Control is advantageous
