At the Chair of Quantum Optics, we are pioneering advanced techniques to manipulate stored ions using high-frequency radiation, employing them as fundamental switching units (Qubits) in quantum computing systems. Our ongoing research aims to innovate and enhance this technology, establishing a robust foundation for scalable quantum computers.

Within the Faculty IV - Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, Department of Physics, Experimental Quantum Optics, we are seeking a dedicated scientific employee under the following terms:

  • Workload: 29.87 hours per week
  • Salary: Paygrade 13 TV-L
  • Contract Duration: Fixed-term for 3 years
Your Responsibilities:

Your research will delve into innovative strategies and methodologies for quantum computing utilizing stored ions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, simulating, and constructing cutting-edge experimental setups
  • Executing and evaluating experiments with stored ions and disseminating scientific findings
  • Collaborating with national and international research entities and funding organizations
Your Qualifications:
  • Degree in Physics (Diploma, Master of Science) with a minimum grade of 'good'
  • Comprehensive understanding of quantum mechanics
  • Strong enthusiasm for the project, with notable commitment and initiative
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team encompassing Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Electrical Engineering
  • Proficient in English
  • Experience in Experimental Quantum Optics, Quantum Information Processing, Laser Spectroscopy and Cooling, Microwave Technology, Laser Technology, Optics, Vacuum Technology, Control and Regulation Electronics, and Real-time Control is advantageous
