Key Responsibilities:

The primary focus of this research position is to contribute to the Collaborative Research Center CRC1415, which investigates the chemistry of synthetic 2D materials. The successful candidate will utilize quantum mechanical (QM) methodologies in conjunction with advanced machine learning (ML) techniques to analyze and predict the electronic and magnetic characteristics of two-dimensional polymers.

This research will facilitate the establishment of data-driven design principles, which will be integrated into generative AI frameworks aimed at developing innovative 2D polymers with specific QM properties relevant to catalysis and energy storage.

Collaboration with synthetic chemists will be essential to validate the synthesis of new materials, fostering an interdisciplinary research environment.

Key tasks include:

  • Conducting extensive QM calculations using density functional theory.
  • Developing Python-based tools for data analysis.
  • Enhancing ML-driven computational workflows to explore structure-property and property-property relationships.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a university degree (Master/Diploma) in physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, or a related field. Proficiency in quantum mechanical methods and machine learning approaches is essential.

We seek individuals with a strong commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and excellent communication skills in English. Familiarity with programming languages such as Fortran and Python, as well as experience with PyTorch, is highly advantageous.
