Research Focus:
The primary objective of this research role within the Collaborative Research Center CRC1415, focusing on the Chemistry of Synthetic 2D Materials, is to integrate quantum mechanical methods with advanced machine learning techniques. This innovative approach aims to explore and predict the electronic and magnetic characteristics of foundational elements in two-dimensional polymers, such as chiral covalent organic frameworks. The research will contribute to establishing data-driven design principles that will be incorporated into generative AI frameworks, facilitating the creation of novel 2D polymers with specific quantum mechanical properties for applications in catalysis and energy storage.

Collaboration and Development:
The successful candidate will engage in extensive quantum mechanical calculations utilizing density functional theory and will be responsible for developing Python-based tools for data analysis. Additionally, advancing machine learning-based computational workflows to investigate structure-property and property-property relationships will be a crucial aspect of this role. The candidate will work closely with synthetic chemists to validate the synthesis of new materials, fostering an interdisciplinary research environment.

Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a university degree (Master/Diploma) in physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, or a related field. Proficiency and practical experience in quantum mechanical methods and machine learning approaches are essential. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment, interdisciplinary thinking, and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently. Excellent communication and writing skills in English are required. Familiarity with programming languages such as Fortran, Python, and PyTorch is highly desirable, along with prior computational experience in research involving organic molecules and materials.
