The Institute for Ion Beam Physics and Materials Research focuses on exploring materials and their nanostructures for potential applications in information technology, emphasizing electrical, magnetic, and optical functionalities.
A cutting-edge technique, two-dimensional (2D) coherent THz spectroscopy, employs a collinear interaction geometry of sequential THz pulses with samples. This method is pivotal for investigating non-linear optical effects across various materials, particularly in revealing the unique lattice and magnetic characteristics of quantum materials.
The Department of Spectroscopy is seeking a talented PhD Student (f/m/d) to leverage this innovative technique in the examination of exotic magnetic excitations within functional materials, specifically focusing on fractionalized spinon excitations in quantum spin liquid candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Enhance a standard 2D THz spectroscopy setup for reflection/transmission measurements at low temperatures.
- Conduct 2D THz spectroscopy studies on selected materials.
- Collaborate with theoretical partners to interpret the observed phenomena.
Candidate Profile
- Completed university education (Master/Diploma) in Physics, Material Science, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of quantum mechanics and solid-state physics.
- Experience in ultrafast spectroscopic techniques is advantageous.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on teamwork in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Proficient in English.
