Position Overview: The Leibniz Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP) is seeking a dedicated researcher to contribute to the EULIAA project, focusing on experimental atmospheric physics.

Mission: Our objective is to enhance scientific understanding of the mesosphere and lower thermosphere by leveraging expertise in atmospheric physics, advanced instrumentation, and data analysis. This research is crucial for addressing societal challenges, including climate change.

Collaboration: We maintain strong partnerships with the University of Rostock and actively participate in the Institute of Physics's educational programs. Our research community is globally connected, fostering collaborative opportunities.

Research Focus: The successful candidate will engage in cutting-edge research involving optical remote sensing techniques aimed at studying the atmosphere up to the edge of space, specifically within the stratosphere, mesosphere, and lower thermosphere.

Project Details: This role involves the development of new instruments and measurement methodologies in close collaboration with local industry partners as part of the EU-funded EULIAA initiative. The project utilizes our compact lidar systems, known as VAHCOLI (Vertical And Horizontal Coverage by Lidar).

Areas of Activity: Key areas of focus include:

  • Optics development (spectroscopy, laser physics)
  • Instrument construction and additive manufacturing
  • Software development for lidar control and data analysis

Qualifications: Candidates must possess a PhD in physics, mathematics, engineering, computer science, environmental sciences, or a related field. Experience with experimental methodologies, particularly in spectroscopy and laser physics, is essential. Proficiency in programming languages such as Julia, Delphi, or C/C++ is also required.

Work Environment: This position offers an engaging international work atmosphere and includes participation in the company pension scheme (VBL). Employment will be governed by the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service of the Federal States (TV-L).
