Position Overview: The Leibniz Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP) is seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute to the EULIAA project, focusing on the innovative field of experimental atmospheric physics.
Mission: Our objective is to enhance the scientific understanding of the mesosphere and lower thermosphere by leveraging our expertise in atmospheric physics, advanced instrumentation, and comprehensive analysis and modeling techniques. This research is crucial in addressing significant societal challenges, including climate change.
Collaboration: The successful candidate will engage in collaborative efforts with the University of Rostock and participate in the educational initiatives of the Institute of Physics. Additionally, the role involves networking with the global research community.
Research Focus: The role emphasizes research in experimental atmospheric physics, particularly in the area of optical remote sensing extending to the edge of space, encompassing the stratosphere, mesosphere, and lower thermosphere.
Project Details: The position is part of the EU-funded EULIAA project, which involves the development of new instruments and measurement techniques in close partnership with local industry. The project utilizes our compact lidar systems, known as VAHCOLI (Vertical And Horizontal Coverage by Lidar).
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing optical technologies, including spectroscopy and laser physics.
- Engaging in building and additive manufacturing activities.
- Contributing to software development for lidar control and data analysis.
Qualifications: Candidates should possess a PhD in physics, mathematics, engineering, computer science, environmental sciences, or a related field. Experience with experimental methodologies, particularly in spectroscopy and laser physics, is essential. Proficiency in programming languages such as Julia, Delphi, and C/C++ is required.
