Role Overview
The selected candidate will integrate into the Telematics Development Team within the SBU Connectivity, reporting to the Team Leader of HW/ME-Engineering & Integration Group or the Director of Hardware Engineering. This position entails mechanical design, development, and modifications utilizing CAD tools such as PTC Creo and CATIA, along with prototyping, engineering testing, and validation. You will be responsible for developing innovative mechanical technologies for Connectivity, Telematics, and Intelligent Cockpit applications, ensuring cost-effectiveness and reliability while leading failure analysis and problem-solving initiatives.Key Responsibilities
Act as the principal mechanical designer for projects, ensuring timely and quality product development throughout the entire product lifecycle. Conduct mechanical design, development, and modifications using CAD tools (PTC Creo / CATIA), including requirements analysis, statistical tolerance stack-up studies, thermal and reliability assessments, and creating 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings. Generate detailed drawings for parts and assemblies, incorporating all necessary dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, specifications, and standards. Select materials with sustainability in mind, review tooling designs, and engage in technical discussions with suppliers regarding feasibility studies and design for manufacturing. Support POC/RFI/RFQ processes, platform development, and project-specific activities while adhering to timing, cost, and quality standards. Provide technical guidance for resolving project issues and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Utilize CAD systems, preferably PTC/Creo, to communicate designs effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners. Collaborate with various departments (e.g., Hardware, Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality) during the development process in a global context. Adhere to current mechanical development processes and contribute to process enhancements. Assist in the creation and refinement of design standards and guidelines.Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design and development. Proven expertise in mechanical design and development for automotive electronic packaging, particularly in Telematics. Strong knowledge of plastic injection molding, sheet metal, die casting, and related tooling processes. Experience in designing waterproof electronic enclosures. Familiarity with FEA and DFMEA/DRBFM methodologies. Understanding of the automotive OEM product design and development lifecycle. Excellent command of PRO-Engineer skills, including solid modeling, surface modeling, and detailed drawing creation with GD&T. Basic knowledge of PLM/PDM systems (e.g., Teamcenter). Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform fundamental engineering calculations. Excellent communication skills and proficiency in English. Proficient in office software, particularly PowerPoint. Ability to analyze and optimize mechanical designs for cost and sustainability. Self-motivated with the capability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail.Additional Qualifications
Proficient in spoken and written English. Business acumen and negotiation skills. Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, ALMs, JIRA). Previous experience in the automotive industry or other TS16949 compliant environments is preferred.What We Offer:
