The Director of Audio Systems Engineering is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of the audio engineering teams, which includes:

  • Leading the development of electroacoustic technologies and audio electronics across the business unit, covering products such as speakers, microphones, headsets, amplifiers, and signal processors.
  • Conducting essential research and development to support new product innovations and ongoing maintenance.
  • Driving and managing the product development lifecycle to ensure swift market entry and competitiveness.
  • Providing strategic leadership and guidance to engineering managers and teams to maintain Bosch's technological edge in alignment with market demands.
  • Ensuring accountability for project costs and timelines within the engineering portfolio.
  • Implementing Bosch's development processes and standards throughout the engineering departments.
  • Facilitating effective collaboration with other Bosch divisions.
  • Identifying opportunities for superior product solutions.
  • Anticipating technological trends and devising strategic plans to lead the market.
  • Managing the technology portfolio across various business lines.
  • Direct Reports: 5 Managers, 2 Directors, Team size: 70.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering and Product Development

  • Overseeing all engineering and product development initiatives for designated product categories.
  • Collaborating creatively with product management to discover technologies and solutions that meet customer needs.
  • Engaging with product management throughout the new product development process, from initial concept to market launch.
  • Consulting with management, production, and logistics teams to assess engineering feasibility, cost efficiency, and customer demand for both new and existing products.
  • Directing departmental efforts to design new products, refine existing designs, enhance production methods, and establish testing protocols.
  • Integrating design teams with supply chain and manufacturing processes.
  • Developing the technical capabilities and expertise of the engineering function to be recognized as a competitive advantage within the organization.

Budget Management and Operational Costs

  • Projecting departmental operating costs and leading the preparation of budget proposals.
  • Understanding and articulating the financial rationale for new product development initiatives, including cost estimation and return on investment.
  • Building relationships with technology providers and vendors.
  • Collaborating closely with Business Line and Product Managers to prioritize R&D efforts and initiatives.

Management Duties:

  • Supervising, coordinating, and reviewing the work of engineering staff and technicians.
  • Assessing personnel needs, recruiting, and nurturing top talent.
  • Defining and assigning work responsibilities.
  • Analyzing technology trends and market demands to inform project planning.
  • Continuously striving to establish world-class Engineering Centers of Excellence.
  • Mapping essential skills required to achieve excellence.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Physics, with at least 10 years of design experience and 5 years in a management role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of acoustics and the design of electroacoustic products, including professional audio systems development.
  • Preferred experience in professional audio speaker design and construction.
  • Familiarity with transducer design is advantageous.
  • Experience in designing professional audio products, including amplifiers and signal processors, is preferred.
  • A proven track record of employing rapid product development techniques to optimize project timelines and budgets.
  • Knowledge of lean principles, manufacturing engineering, and engineering process control methods.
  • Ability to allocate resources effectively for specific product initiatives.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong communication skills for presenting to customers and stakeholders.
  • Thorough understanding of financial and managerial accounting principles related to product development and engineering projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in personnel management and budget oversight.
  • Willingness to travel between company locations and to customer sites, including international travel.
