Role OverviewThe Director of Audio Engineering is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of the audio engineering teams, which includes:
- Leading the development of electroacoustic technologies and audio electronics across the business unit's portfolio, which includes speakers, microphones, headsets, amplifiers, and signal processors.
- Conducting necessary research and development to support new product innovation and maintenance.
- Driving and managing new product initiatives to enhance market penetration.
- Providing leadership and direction to engineering managers and teams to ensure Bosch maintains its technological leadership in alignment with market demands.
- Accountability for project cost and schedule execution within the portfolio.
- Implementing Bosch's development processes and standards across engineering teams.
- Ensuring effective collaboration with other Bosch divisions.
- Identifying opportunities for superior solutions.
- Anticipating technological advancements and strategizing to lead in those areas.
- Managing the technology portfolio across multiple business lines.
- Direct Reports: 5 Managers, 2 Directors, Team size: 70.
Engineering and Product Development
- Overseeing all engineering and product development activities for designated product areas.
- Collaborating creatively with product management to identify technological solutions that meet customer needs.
- Engaging with product management throughout the new product development lifecycle using Bosch's structured processes.
- Consulting with management, production, and logistics to assess engineering feasibility and customer demand.
- Directing department efforts to design new products, enhance existing designs, and develop testing protocols.
- Integrating design teams with supply chain and manufacturing processes.
- Building the technical capabilities and expertise of the engineering function to be recognized as a competitive advantage.
Budget Management and Operational Costs
- Forecasting departmental operating costs and guiding budget preparation.
- Understanding and justifying the financial aspects of new product development initiatives.
- Establishing relationships with technology providers and vendors.
- Collaborating closely with Business Line and Product Managers to prioritize R&D initiatives.
Management Duties
- Supervising and reviewing the work of engineering and technical staff.
- Estimating personnel requirements and developing top talent.
- Defining and assigning work responsibilities.
- Analyzing technology trends and market demands to plan projects effectively.
- Striving to establish world-class Engineering Centers of Excellence.
- Mapping essential skills needed to achieve exceptional performance.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Physics, with at least 10 years of design experience and 5 years in a management role, or a comparable mix of education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of acoustics and professional audio systems development, including hardware and software design.
- Preferred expertise in professional audio speaker design and transducer development.
- Proven experience in rapid product development methodologies to optimize project timelines.
- Familiarity with lean principles and engineering process control methods.
- Ability to allocate resources effectively for product initiatives.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills.
- Thorough understanding of financial and managerial accounting principles related to product development.
- Demonstrated experience in personnel management and budget oversight.
- Willingness to travel as required.
