The Director of Engineering for Audio Systems will oversee and manage the operations of the Audio engineering teams, including:
- Leading initiatives in electroacoustic technology and audio electronics across the entire business unit, covering a wide range of products such as speakers, microphones, headsets, amplifiers, and signal processors.
- Conducting essential research and development to support both new product innovations and ongoing maintenance.
- Driving and managing the product development lifecycle to enhance market reach and effectiveness.
- Providing strategic leadership and guidance to Engineering Managers and teams to ensure Bosch maintains its technological edge in alignment with market demands.
- Accountability for project execution in terms of budget and timelines.
- Implementing Bosch’s development processes and standards across all engineering departments.
- Facilitating effective collaboration with other Bosch divisions.
- Identifying and pursuing opportunities for superior solutions.
- Anticipating technological advancements and formulating strategic plans to lead in those areas.
- Managing the technology portfolio across various business lines.
- Direct Reports: 5 Managers, 2 Directors, Team size: 70.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering and Product Development
- Overseeing all engineering and product development activities for designated product categories.
- Collaborating creatively with product management to discover technologies and solutions that meet customer needs.
- Engaging with product management throughout the new product development process, from initial concept to market introduction.
- Consulting with management, production, and logistics teams to assess engineering feasibility, cost efficiency, and customer demand for both new and existing products.
- Directing department efforts to design new products, enhance existing designs, improve manufacturing processes, and develop testing protocols.
- Integrating design teams with supply chain and manufacturing operations.
- Building the technical expertise and capabilities of the engineering function to be recognized as a competitive advantage.
Budget Management and Operating Costs
- Projecting departmental operating costs and guiding the preparation of budget proposals.
- Understanding and justifying the financial rationale for new product development initiatives, including cost estimation and ROI analysis.
- Establishing relationships with technology providers and vendors.
- Collaborating closely with Business Line and Product Managers to set R&D priorities.
Management Duties:
- Supervising, coordinating, and reviewing the work of engineering and technical staff.
- Assessing personnel needs, recruiting, and nurturing top talent.
- Defining and assigning work responsibilities.
- Analyzing technology trends and market demands to inform project planning.
- Continuously striving to develop world-class Engineering Centers of Excellence.
- Mapping essential skills required to achieve excellence.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Physics, with at least 10 years of design experience and 5 years in a management role, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
- Extensive knowledge of acoustics and the design of electroacoustic products, including professional audio systems development.
- Preferred experience in professional audio speaker design and construction.
- Preferred knowledge of transducer design.
- Preferred expertise in professional audio product design, including amplifiers and signal processors.
- Demonstrated success in utilizing rapid product development techniques to optimize project timelines within budget constraints.
- Familiarity with lean principles, manufacturing engineering, and engineering process control methods.
- Ability to allocate resources effectively for specific product initiatives.
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
- Strong communication skills for presenting to customers and stakeholders.
- Comprehensive understanding of financial and managerial accounting principles as they relate to product development.
- Proven experience in personnel management and budget oversight.
- Willingness to travel as required for business needs.
