Tenure Track Group Leader Position in Fish Ecophysiology

We are seeking an exceptional candidate to lead a research group in Fish Ecophysiology at Leibniz-Institut für Gewässerökologie und Binnenfischerei. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing an independent research program focused on organismal fish ecophysiology, with a particular emphasis on the physiological mechanisms that enable fish to survive, grow, reproduce, and thrive in various aquatic environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish an independent research program in fish ecophysiology, covering areas such as bioenergetics, sensory ecology, thermal tolerance, osmoregulation, and stress physiology.
  • Design and conduct experiments in laboratory settings, as well as in natural environments such as ponds, lakes, and rivers, to investigate physiological responses to environmental change.
  • Use the insights gained to advance our understanding of fish biology and ecology, and to translate mechanistic insights into species distributions or responses to environmental stressors or management.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at scientific conferences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within IGB and participate in interdisciplinary research projects.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in a relevant field, such as biology, ecology, physiology, or a related field, with a specialization in fish ecophysiology.
  • Proficiency in relevant laboratory techniques, such as respirometry, biochemical assays, and other physiological measurements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research team.
  • Strong background in experimental design and data analysis.
  • Strong conceptual background in freshwater ecology and fish biology.
  • Excellent publication record in peer-reviewed journals commensurate with career stage.

This is a tenure-track position with a long-term perspective according to IGB's guidelines.
