The Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology is seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team in Jena, Germany.

About the Position

We are looking for a researcher with a strong background in life sciences or chemistry to work on the discovery of novel natural products from the moss microbiome. The successful candidate will collect bacterial strains from mosses, use bioinformatics to identify novel biosynthetic gene clusters, and characterize promising gene clusters experimentally to isolate the corresponding natural products and determine their activities.

Responsibilities
  • Collect bacterial strains from mosses and use bioinformatics to identify novel biosynthetic gene clusters
  • Characterize promising gene clusters experimentally to isolate the corresponding natural products and determine their activities
  • Collaborate with the team to develop and implement new methods for natural product discovery
  • Contribute to the writing of research papers and presentations
Requirements
  • Doctoral degree in life sciences or chemistry
  • Experience in natural product isolation/characterization or bioinformatics (genome mining, metagenomics)
  • Experience in working with plants is an advantage
  • Experience in high-resolution mass spectrometry and metabolomics is a plus
  • Data analysis and programming skills are beneficial
  • Very good communication skills in English, both written and spoken

Salary is paid according to German TV-L (salary agreement for public service employees).
