The Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology is seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team in Jena, Germany.

Research Area

We are investigating the pathobiology of human-pathogenic fungi and developing novel natural product-based antiinfectives. The successful candidate will work on the discovery of novel (antimicrobial) natural products from the moss microbiome, a promising but understudied habitat.

Responsibilities
  • Collect bacterial strains from mosses
  • Use bioinformatics (metagenomics, genome mining) to identify novel biosynthetic gene clusters
  • Characterize promising gene clusters experimentally to isolate the corresponding natural products and determine their activities
Requirements
  • Doctoral degree in life sciences or chemistry
  • Experience in natural product isolation/characterization or bioinformatics (genome mining, metagenomics)
  • Experience in working with plants is an advantage
  • High-resolution mass spectrometry and metabolomics skills are a plus
  • Data analysis and programming skills are beneficial
