We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced postdoctoral researcher to join our junior research group Secondary Metabolism of Microbial Interactions at the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology.

About the Project

The successful candidate will be involved in the discovery of novel natural products, particularly from bacterial or fungal origin, which play important roles in microbial interactions and communication. The project focuses on the moss microbiome, a promising but understudied habitat for the discovery of new antibiotics and other bioactive compounds.

Responsibilities
  • Collect bacterial strains from mosses and use bioinformatics tools to identify novel biosynthetic gene clusters in the moss microbiome.
  • Characterize promising gene clusters experimentally to isolate the corresponding natural products and determine their activities.
Requirements
  • Doctoral degree in life sciences or chemistry.
  • Experience in natural product isolation/characterization or bioinformatics (genome mining, metagenomics).
  • Experience in working with plants is an advantage.
  • High-resolution mass spectrometry and metabolomics skills are a plus.
  • Data analysis and programming skills in Python are beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
