This division is divided into two primary categories: carrier networks and enterprise networks. The carrier network segment focuses on optical-based communication infrastructure for services such as video, data, and voice, while the enterprise network segment provides optical communication networks for businesses, governments, and individuals.
Position Overview:
The Carrier Networks Application Engineering (AE) Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing a team of Application Engineers who serve as product and solution specialists for Corning. This team will cultivate strong local relationships with key customer contacts and the ecosystem of agents, including design consultants and installers. The role involves promoting the adoption of innovative solutions among major clients through extensive technical sales and engineering support, while also collaborating with internal teams in commercial strategic accounts and product lifecycle management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of customer-facing Application Engineers who:
- Deliver pre-sales support, including product recommendations, system design, and installation training.
- Provide post-sales assistance, including on-site support during installations and troubleshooting.
- Develop system solutions, including Bill of Materials and technical drawings based on client specifications.
- Create technical documentation and commercial papers as necessary.
- Design and conduct training programs for Corning solutions.
- Advise clients on product applications and articulate the benefits of Corning solutions.
- Gather feedback for product improvements and compliance with regional standards.
- Analyze competitor offerings and provide insights.
- Contribute technical input for key account business reviews.
- Facilitate field trials and establish success criteria for new innovations.
- Collaborate with third-party vendors to ensure compatibility of solutions.
- Encourage the development of smart tools to enhance task efficiency.
Managerial Responsibilities:
- Guide team members on task priorities and ensure adequate training.
- Manage external and internal requests, tracking performance metrics through objectives and KPIs.
- Develop a vision for optimized processes and lead change management initiatives.
- Conduct annual reviews and development plans, providing coaching and feedback throughout the year.
- Foster a cohesive team environment that values contributions from all members.
- Oversee recruitment and onboarding of new team members.
- Engage regularly with stakeholders in related functions to ensure effective operations.
Qualifications:
- University degree in Telecommunications or Engineering; a Master of Business is advantageous.
- Over 5 years of experience in the telecommunications sector.
- Strong technical and analytical capabilities.
- Proven ability to build and maintain customer relationships and resolve issues through collaboration.
- Experience presenting to C-level executives with the ability to manage expectations.
- Demonstrated experience in driving organizational change.
- Established relationships within Commercial, Product Line Management, and Operations functions.
- Fluency in English, with additional European languages being a plus.
Travel Requirements:
- Willingness to travel 25-35%, primarily within continental Europe and potentially beyond.
- Flexibility for short-notice travel, including overnight stays.
- Must possess valid travel documentation and a clean driving record.
Work Schedule:
Standard work hours are a minimum of 40 hours per week, with additional travel time as necessary. Weekend work may be required.
