About the Role: The Application Engineering Manager for Carrier Networks is a hands-on managerial role overseeing a team of Application Engineers (AEs) who act as product and solution specialists for Corning. This team will cultivate strong local connections with key customer representatives and the network of agents that support these clients, including design consultants and installers. The manager will promote the adoption of innovative solutions among major clients through comprehensive technical sales and engineering assistance while collaborating with internal colleagues in commercial strategic account teams and product lifecycle management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of AEs who provide:
    • Pre-sales support, including product recommendations, system design, installation training, and testing.
    • Post-sales assistance, including on-site support during installation, troubleshooting, and resolution of customer notifications.
    • System solutions, including Bill of Materials and drawings tailored to customer specifications, and completion of customer RFIs.
    • Creation of technical documentation and commercial papers as required.
    • Design and delivery of training programs for Corning solutions.
    • Advisory services to customers on product applications and benefits of Corning solutions.
    • Feedback to product management for product enhancement ideas and compliance with regional standards.
    • Competitor product analysis and reporting.
    • Technical input for key account business reviews.
    • Facilitation of field trials and definition of success criteria.
    • Collaboration with third-party vendors to ensure compatibility of solutions.
    • Encouragement of smart tool development to enhance task efficiency.

Managerial Duties:

  • Guide AE team members on task priorities and ensure adequate training.
  • Prioritize internal and external requests; monitor team performance metrics through objectives and KPIs.
  • Develop a vision for optimized processes and lead change management initiatives.
  • Conduct annual reviews and development plans, providing coaching and feedback throughout the year.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment where all members feel valued.
  • Oversee recruitment and onboarding of new team members.
  • Maintain frequent communication with stakeholders in related functions.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Telecommunications or Engineering; a Master of Business is advantageous.
  • Over 5 years of experience in the telecommunications sector.
  • Strong technical and analytical capabilities.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain customer relationships and resolve issues through cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience presenting to C-level executives with the ability to manage expectations.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving organizational change.
  • Established relationships within Commercial, Product Management, and Operations.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in additional European languages is a plus.

Travel Requirements: 25-35% travel primarily within continental Europe, with potential travel to the EMEA region.

Work Schedule: Minimum 40-hour work week, with some weekend work or travel as necessary.
