Business Development Representative

Washington Mills is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Business Development Representative to join our team. As a Business Development Representative, you will be responsible for identifying and pursuing new business opportunities in the materials science and industrial B2B markets.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leverage technical expertise and product knowledge to identify potential business targets and develop strategic plans to pursue them.
  • Provide market insights and competitive analysis to inform business development strategies.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers, distributors, and strategic partners to drive business growth and technology adoption.
  • Cold-call and proactively create new business contacts across a range of industries and technical disciplines.
  • Create a robust pipeline of opportunities to facilitate growth and technology adoption.
  • Work with prospect and current accounts to identify key performance characteristics and communicate requirements back to the organization.
  • Lead strategic planning efforts to support technical validation with key customers from conception through commercialization.
  • Manage account relationships, implement pricing, gather business forecasts, plan supplies, and execute other customer-focused sales activities.
  • Understand and apply the Job to Be Done (JTBD) approach to drive business development.
  • Identify, prioritize, and execute business development agreements, including supply agreements, funded R&D projects, joint development, sales, and licensing agreements.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and technology shifts that influence the applications for our products.
  • Utilize CRM platform to document communications, manage pipeline, capture business opportunities, and manage customer projects from inception to implementation.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Market/Business Development in a related field (materials, abrasives, batteries, 3DP, ceramic composites, plastics, gasification, chemicals, catalysts, metallurgy).
  • Bachelor's Degree in appropriate specialty (preference for Chemistry, Materials Science, Life Science, or Engineering), advanced degree preferred.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, as well as analytical, project management, research, and planning abilities.
  • A strong understanding of chemistry, materials science, ceramics, and the ability to effectively communicate the value proposition to potential customers and stakeholders.
  • A great sense of curiosity and track record of quickly and effectively diving into new technical areas.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, customer relations, new product introductions, portfolio growth, and pipeline management.
  • Adept at building and maintaining relationships with customers and key opinion leaders.
  • Proficient computer skills (including Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CRM).
  • Willingness and availability to travel overnight up to 50% to visit customers, suppliers, and attend industry-related events.
