Position Overview: The role entails engagement in two significant projects initiated by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Project Initiatives: The global initiative "Sustainable Economic Transformation & Sustainable Finance" aims to assist emerging and developing nations in reforming their economic and financial frameworks. The sustainable finance segment, where the advisor will be involved, focuses on effectively directing financial resources towards sustainable investments by enhancing regulatory structures and fostering expertise within the financial sector.

The develoPPP program titled "Transitioning Towards Net Zero: Financing Nature-based Solutions" is a collaborative effort between GIZ and Triodos Investment Management. This project seeks to bolster the capabilities of both private and public sectors in financing nature-based solutions and mobilizing private investment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute project activities in the partner nations, collaborating with financial institutions, banking associations, universities, impact investors, project developers, and financial market regulators. Target countries include Brazil, India, Mexico, Peru, Rwanda, Senegal, and Kenya.
  • In the global initiative: Offer technical and strategic guidance to financial institutions, including planning and executing training measures in sustainable finance, as well as advising public entities such as finance ministries and central banks on sustainable finance policies and regulations.
  • In the develoPPP program, responsibilities include identifying suitable projects and investors for financing nature-based solutions, planning and conducting training sessions for financial institutions, coordinating with stakeholders, and developing technical contributions and knowledge products, such as training materials that incorporate sustainability/nature aspects in financial institutions and guidelines for financing nature-based solutions along with their impact assessment and reporting.
  • Manage project implementation tasks, including budget planning and oversight, drafting terms of reference, stakeholder coordination, contractor management, quality assurance, and impact reporting on project activities.
  • Establish a robust professional network with internal and external partners at national, European, and international levels. Represent GIZ as a sustainable finance expert at international conferences and workshops.
  • Contribute to the project's strategic direction, operational planning, impact monitoring, and the initiation of new projects along with securing project funding.

Qualifications:

  • University degree (diploma/master's degree) in economics, finance, environmental, agricultural, or forestry sciences, or a comparable qualification.
  • Extensive work experience in the commercial finance sector.
  • Significant experience in sustainable finance, particularly in areas such as financing sustainable projects/nature-based solutions, sustainable financial instruments, impact investing, sustainability risk management (e.g., climate change and biodiversity loss), and sustainability reporting.
  • Deep understanding of nature-based solutions, especially in agriculture, forestry, or mangroves, along with technical sustainability criteria.
  • Considerable project management experience in an international context, with work experience in developing or emerging countries being highly desirable.
  • Experience in advising and delivering training to central banks, financial regulators, and supervisory authorities.
  • Confident and persuasive communication skills in professional settings and with high-ranking stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish; proficiency in German and additional languages (Portuguese, French, Arabic) is advantageous.

Additional Information: This position can be full-time or part-time, with a commitment to 100% of the agreed working hours. Frequent business travel is required, and employees may be assigned to various GIZ locations both domestically and internationally.
