Position Overview: The role focuses on engaging in two significant projects commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Project Details: The global initiative "Sustainable Economic Transformation & Sustainable Finance" aims to assist emerging and developing nations in reshaping their economic and financial frameworks. The sustainable finance segment, where the advisor will be involved, seeks to effectively direct financial resources towards sustainable investments by enhancing the regulatory landscape and developing expertise within the financial sector.
The develoPPP program titled "Transitioning Towards Net Zero: Financing Nature-based Solutions" is a collaboration between GIZ and Triodos Investment Management. This project aspires to bolster the capabilities of both private and public sectors in financing nature-based solutions and mobilizing private capital.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and execute project activities in partner countries, collaborating with financial institutions, banking associations, universities, impact investors, project developers, and financial market regulators. The partner countries include Brazil, India, Mexico, Peru, Rwanda, Senegal, and Kenya.
- In the global project: Offer technical and strategic guidance to financial institutions, including planning and executing training initiatives in sustainable finance, as well as advising public entities such as finance ministries and central banks on sustainable finance policies and regulations.
- In the develoPPP program, responsibilities include identifying appropriate projects and investors for financing nature-based solutions, planning and conducting training sessions for financial institutions, coordinating with various stakeholders, and developing technical contributions and knowledge products, such as training materials that incorporate sustainability and nature considerations in financial institutions.
- Manage project tasks related to the implementation of both projects, including budget planning and oversight, drafting terms of reference, stakeholder coordination, contractor management, quality assurance, and impact reporting on project activities.
- Establish a robust professional network with internal and external partners at national, European, and international levels. Represent GIZ as a sustainable finance expert at international conferences and workshops.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the project, operational planning, impact monitoring, and the initiation of new projects, as well as securing project funding.
Qualifications:
- University degree (diploma/master's degree) in economics, finance, environmental sciences, agricultural sciences, forestry, or a related field.
- Several years of experience in the commercial finance sector.
- Extensive experience in sustainable finance, particularly in areas such as financing sustainable projects/nature-based solutions, sustainable financial instruments, impact investing, sustainability risk management, and sustainability reporting.
- Deep understanding of nature-based solutions, especially in agriculture, forestry, or mangroves, along with technical sustainability criteria.
- Proven project management experience in an international context, with work experience in developing or emerging countries being highly desirable.
- Experience in providing advisory services and training to central banks, financial regulators, and supervisory authorities.
- Confident and persuasive communication skills in professional settings and with high-ranking stakeholders.
- Fluency in English and Spanish, with proficiency in German and additional languages (Portuguese, French, Arabic) considered an asset.
Additional Information: This position can be full-time or part-time, with a commitment to 100% of the agreed working hours. Frequent business travel is required, and employees may be assigned to various GIZ locations in Germany and abroad.
