Position Overview
The Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies at the University of Passau is seeking applications for the tenured civil-service position of Chair of Philosophy (pay grade W3). The successful candidate will embody the full spectrum of philosophy in both teaching and research.
Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated focus on the history of philosophy and possess expertise in theoretical philosophy. A strong research portfolio, evidenced by internationally recognized publications and an established academic network, along with a proven track record in securing external funding, is essential.
Furthermore, candidates should have a research agenda that aligns with the thematic priorities of the University of Passau.
Responsibilities
The appointee will oversee the ethics and philosophy modules within the Teacher Education Programmes and various interdisciplinary bachelor's and master's degree offerings, particularly those managed by the Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies. Additionally, the role includes teaching modules related to the philosophy of religion.
The successful candidate will participate in teacher education assessments for the Bavarian state examination and should be capable of delivering courses in both English and German. Experience in developing degree programmes is advantageous.

Fields such as cultural and media studies, humanities, and Catholic theology are characterized by thematic, methodological, and spatial diversity in both teaching and research.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree and have demonstrated both pedagogical skills and academic excellence, typically established through the quality of their doctoral research and subsequent scholarly contributions. Additionally, candidates should possess the German formal postdoctoral habilitation qualification or equivalent academic achievements obtained in a higher education context.
In accordance with relevant regulations, candidates must not exceed a specified age limit at the time of appointment.
