Position Overview
The Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies is seeking applications for the esteemed position of Chair of Philosophy (pay grade W3). The successful candidate will be expected to embody the full spectrum of philosophy in both teaching and research.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent the discipline of philosophy comprehensively in academic settings.
- Focus on the history of philosophy and possess expertise in theoretical philosophy.
- Maintain a strong research portfolio with internationally recognized publications and a well-established academic network.
- Demonstrate success in securing external funding for research initiatives.
- Align research interests with the thematic priorities of the University of Passau.
- Contribute to the development of the faculty's academic profile.
Teaching Duties
The appointee will oversee the ethics and philosophy modules within the Teacher Education Programmes and various interdisciplinary bachelor’s and master’s programs, particularly those managed by the Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies. The role also includes teaching courses in the philosophy of religion and involvement in teacher education assessments for state examinations. Proficiency in both English and German is required, and experience in curriculum development is advantageous.

Candidate Profile
Applicants should hold a doctoral degree and demonstrate both pedagogical skill and academic excellence, typically evidenced by the quality of doctoral research and subsequent scholarly achievements. Candidates must possess the German formal postdoctoral habilitation qualification or equivalent academic credentials, which may have been acquired in various academic roles or through leading research initiatives. Furthermore, candidates should be no older than 52 years at the time of appointment.
