Position Overview
The Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies is seeking applications for the esteemed position of Chair of Philosophy (pay grade W3). The successful candidate will embody the full spectrum of philosophy in both teaching and research.
Applicants should demonstrate a solid focus on the history of philosophy alongside expertise in theoretical philosophy. A robust research portfolio, evidenced by internationally recognized publications and a strong academic network, is essential, as is a proven ability to secure external funding.
Moreover, candidates are expected to align their research interests with the thematic priorities of the University of Passau.
Responsibilities
The appointed individual will oversee the ethics and philosophy modules within the Teacher Education Programmes and various interdisciplinary bachelor’s and master’s degree offerings, particularly those managed by the Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies.
Additionally, the role includes teaching modules related to the philosophy of religion. The candidate will also participate in teacher education assessments for the Bavarian state examination and should be proficient in delivering courses in both English and German.
Experience in developing degree programs is considered advantageous.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will hold a doctoral degree and exhibit both pedagogical skills and academic excellence, typically demonstrated through the quality of their doctoral research and subsequent scholarly achievements.
Additionally, candidates should possess the German formal postdoctoral habilitation qualification or equivalent academic accomplishments gained in a higher education setting, such as a junior professorship or a comparable role.
In accordance with relevant regulations, candidates must not exceed a specified age limit at the time of appointment.
