Position Overview
The Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies at the University of Passau is seeking candidates for the esteemed position of Chair of Philosophy (pay grade W3). The successful applicant will embody the comprehensive field of philosophy in both teaching and research.
Applicants should demonstrate a solid focus on the history of philosophy, alongside expertise in theoretical philosophy. A proven research background, evidenced by internationally recognized publications and a strong academic network, is essential, as is a commitment to securing external funding.
Furthermore, candidates are expected to have a research agenda that aligns with the thematic priorities of the University of Passau. A proactive approach to enhancing the faculty's profile is also required.
Teaching Responsibilities
The appointed individual will oversee the ethics and philosophy modules integral to the Teacher Education Programmes and various interdisciplinary bachelor’s and master’s degree offerings, particularly those managed by the Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies. Additionally, the role includes teaching modules related to the philosophy of religion.
Involvement in teacher education assessments for the Bavarian state examination is expected, and the ability to deliver courses in both English and German is necessary. Experience in developing degree programmes is considered advantageous.

Candidate Qualifications
The ideal candidate will hold a doctoral degree and have demonstrated both pedagogical skill and academic excellence, typically evidenced by the quality of their doctoral research and subsequent scholarly achievements. A formal postdoctoral habilitation qualification or equivalent academic accomplishments from a higher education institution is required.
In accordance with applicable regulations, candidates must be under the age limit specified at the time of appointment.
