About CAESAR

CAESAR is a leading neuroethology institute dedicated to understanding the intricacies of animal behavior. Our research focuses on the neural mechanisms underlying collective activity in the brain, with a particular emphasis on the foraging behavior of the roundworm C. elegans.

The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD Researcher to join our Neural Information Flow group. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing a 'virtual reality' setup for worms to investigate collective foraging behavior. This project involves a combination of setup development and programming, behavioral assays, and image analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop a customized 'virtual reality' setup for worms
  • Implement programming and data analysis tools to support behavioral assays and image analysis
  • Conduct experiments to investigate collective foraging behavior in C. elegans
  • Collaborate with the research team to analyze and interpret data

Requirements

  • Master's degree in neuroscience, biophysics, physics, physical chemistry, engineering, computer science, or related fields
  • Strong programming skills in Python and experience with data analysis and machine learning
  • Interest in building and developing customized scientific instruments
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
