We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled PhD Researcher to join our team at CAESAR, a leading neuroethology institute. The successful candidate will be part of our Neural Information Flow research group, focusing on understanding the neural circuits involved in animal behavior.

About the Project

Our lab is interested in understanding how two behaviors (feeding and locomotion) are coupled and the neural circuits involved in this coupling. For a newly funded project, we are looking for a researcher interested in working on creating a 'virtual reality' setup for worms to investigate collective foraging behavior. This project involves a combination of setup development and programming, behavioral assays and image analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop customized scientific instruments for data collection and analysis
  • Conduct behavioral assays and image analysis to understand neural circuits involved in animal behavior
  • Work on creating a 'virtual reality' setup for worms to investigate collective foraging behavior
  • Collaborate with the research team to achieve project goals

Requirements

  • Master's degree in neuroscience, biophysics, physics, physical chemistry, engineering, computer science or related fields
  • Good knowledge of at least one programming language for data analysis (Python preferred)
  • Strong interest in quantitative approaches for describing behavior and neural circuits
  • Interest in building and developing customized scientific instruments
