Director of HR Compensation Strategies - HQ & Central (m/f/d)

Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization:

The Rewards Partner Lead operates within a dynamic environment to spearhead the formulation and execution of Reward solutions, aligning with the business objectives and overarching adidas strategy while enhancing employee engagement.

The role of the Director of HR Compensation Strategies encompasses both geographical leadership and global oversight responsibilities. This includes:

  • Leading the Rewards Partnering initiatives for adidas HQ/Germany and the Central cluster, which includes Switzerland, Austria, and Eastern Europe.
  • Overseeing and coordinating global Rewards initiatives for Global Functions, Corporate Functions, Global Brands, and Global HR4HR on a worldwide scale.

In this capacity, manage all facets of Rewards topics (Compensation, Benefits, Cross-Border Employment, and Recognition) and lead the execution and communication of Rewards processes, standards, procedures, and guidelines for this Business Unit.

For adidas HQ/Germany, maintain relationships on behalf of Rewards with employee representative groups for adidas AG in Germany, as well as the European Works Council. In these matters, serve as the primary liaison for the Herzo Site Lead, Legal (especially Labor Relations, Employment Law), and Corporate Communications, while participating in, and occasionally leading, all negotiations concerning Rewards-related issues. Ensure comprehensive delivery and implementation, including communication and change management of Rewards programs within the scope.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the main Rewards contact for key HR and Business stakeholders; collaborate with these stakeholders to develop global Rewards solutions, emphasizing the employee experience.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with HR SLT and executive-level Business stakeholders, providing expert guidance and advice, while also challenging when necessary.
  • Focus on fostering connections within and between teams, as well as with internal and external stakeholders, promoting a global perspective in the implementation of global programs, standards, and policies.
  • Comprehend and convey local compensation and Rewards arrangements in Germany.
  • From an HR Rewards standpoint, maintain expertise on, communicate, and ensure widespread knowledge about collective agreement arrangements within the HR community, GBS, line managers, and employees in Germany.
  • Present to and/or negotiate with local employee representative groups in Germany, as required.
  • Utilize storytelling techniques to facilitate effective change management and achieve alignment and buy-in.
  • Lead Rewards project workstreams and initiatives that extend beyond the immediate team.
  • Collaborate with other HR functions, as well as Finance, Tax, and Labor Law & Labor Relations, to ensure alignment and compliance of Rewards programs and processes.
  • Work with Labor Law to ensure consideration of HR / HR Rewards input in Collective Agreement arrangements and ensure adidas' adherence to Collective Agreements.
  • Actively participate in internal and external networks and communities to promote knowledge transfer and facilitate innovation.
  • Stay informed about existing and emerging trends and their implications on rewards programs.
  • Continuously evaluate Reward programs to ensure alignment with market trends and strategic objectives.

Germany Employee-Representative Group Specific Activities:

  • On behalf of Rewards, manage relationships with all employee representative groups (works councils) in Germany, fostering positive working relationships through open dialogue.
  • Collaborate with Labor Law and Labor Relations, along with the Herzo Site Lead, to support negotiations with employee representative groups in Germany on all Rewards-related topics from an expert perspective.
  • Contribute to the preparation of legal agreements (e.g., Company Agreements) as needed.
  • Prepare and deliver training/communication materials & change management related to Rewards programs in Germany, focusing on Compensation.
  • Work alongside Global Lead Experts for Compensation, Benefits, and Cross-Border Employment (CBE) to understand upcoming programs and initiatives, providing expert advice on Germany-specific requirements.
  • Ensure compliance of Rewards programs with all regulatory requirements and collective agreements in Germany. Monitor the development, tracking, and reporting of KPIs closely.
  • Participate in, moderate, and represent in internal strategic teams composed of Labor Law & Labor Relations, Site Lead, and Talent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven experience as a Rewards and/or Compensation specialist, ideally with a strong track record in Germany.
  • Comprehensive understanding of German labor law and principles of Collective Agreements.
  • Ability to adapt and respond in a dynamic work environment.
  • Experience in delivering exceptional results in complex global and matrix organizations.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, with the ability to guide people through the journey.
  • In-depth understanding of Rewards products and processes, developed through experience.
  • Confidence and negotiation skills when engaging with Executive-level stakeholders.
  • Exceptional collaboration skills and ability to build connections.
  • High level of resilience.
  • Proven communication and storytelling skills, particularly related to Rewards topics.

  • Excellent command of English (knowledge of German language would be a definite advantage).
  • High level of affinity to and experience with Business computing solutions, ideally including SAP-HR (experience with additional tools would be a plus).

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of overall work experience within HR Rewards, preferably with a focus on Compensation (required).
  • Language skills: German (Fluent) & English (Fluent) (required).
  • University degree or adequate education with emphasis on HR, Finance, or Law / Labor Relations.
  • Proven executive management influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Proven Project Management skills.
  • Experience leading direct or indirect teams.
  • Experience working in an international matrix organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
