Research Associate for the Project UPTAKE/PyMiCCS

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join our team at Universität Hamburg. As a Research Associate, you will play a key role in advancing our understanding of climate change mitigation strategies, specifically in the areas of Enhanced Weathering and Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct a comprehensive review of literature and evidence on Enhanced Weathering and Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement, as well as emerging geochemical carbon dioxide removal approaches.
- Evaluate various methodological pathways for Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement in collaboration with project partners across Europe.
- Assess and refine the potential and techno-economics of terrestrial Enhanced Weathering, including its carbon dioxide removal potential, agricultural benefits, soil acidification reversal, and reduced fertilizer usage.
- Develop methodologies and improve life cycle assessments (LCA) for Enhanced Weathering and Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement.
- Disseminate results through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at conferences.
- University degree in a relevant field, plus doctorate.
- Expertise in Enhanced Weathering and Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement carbon dioxide removal methods.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Familiarity with the carbonate system chemistry, especially in the marine environment.
- Familiarity with life cycle assessment (LCA) and techno-economic assessment (TEA) methodologies and environmental impact assessments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting research findings and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
