Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Water Permit Writer to join our team. As a key member of our Environmental Quality department, you will play a critical role in reviewing and developing enforceable permits for water quality management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and evaluate VPDES permit applications and related operation-design submittals for completeness and accuracy.
  • Develop and write technically sound permits in accordance with the Clean Water Act and Virginia State Water Law.
  • Provide recommendations and technical support for approval of facility design and operation documents.
  • Collaborate with clients to resolve permit-related compliance and enforcement issues.
  • Stay up-to-date with state and federal environmental regulations and guidelines.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in water quality management or a related field.
  • Excellent knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Environmental Science or a related field.
  • Experience with permit writing and review.
  • Knowledge of PC/database operations and information technology software.
