Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Environmental Quality is seeking a highly skilled Water Permit Writer to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for reviewing VPDES permit applications and related operation-design submittals for applicability and completeness, and developing and writing enforceable permits for issuance in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze permit applications and related documents to ensure compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Develop and write enforceable permits that meet the requirements of the Clean Water Act and Virginia State Water Law.
  • Provide technical support and recommendations for approval of facility design and operation documents.
  • Collaborate with clients to resolve permit-related issues efficiently, openly, fairly, and consistently.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of water quality science and wastewater treatment.
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex policies, guidelines, and regulations.
