Agricultural Program Coordinator

Position Overview:

The Division of Agriculture of the University of Arkansas is seeking a dedicated Program Associate to play a pivotal role in the planning and execution of agricultural programs. This position involves independent decision-making and close coordination with Project Leaders and supervisors to ensure effective project implementation and management.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operate autonomously in the development and execution of research initiatives.
  2. Contribute to the conceptual framework and design of programs, as well as disseminate results and engage in educational activities.
  3. Assist in securing extramural funding to support program activities.
  4. Perform both laboratory and field tasks related to agricultural research and outreach.
  5. Establish and manage large plot research trials, including crop scouting and management.
  6. Conduct on-farm research, which includes equipment maintenance, crop planting and harvesting, and data collection.
  7. Facilitate the Arkansas Irrigation Yield Contest and implement irrigation water management practices.
  8. Collaborate with the water management engineer to develop materials for reports and presentations.
  9. Monitor and report on the implementation of new irrigation technologies.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanized Systems Management, Agricultural Technology Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, Agronomy, or a related field, along with three years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a Master's degree in a related field is acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications: A Master's degree and familiarity with farming practices, irrigation systems, and agricultural machinery are highly desirable. Certification as a Crop Advisor is a plus.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management software.
  • Technical expertise in irrigation systems.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations.
  • Capacity to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Physical capability to lift at least 50 pounds and operate various agricultural equipment.
